Lauren Bacchus graduated high school in 2020 from Wakefield School in The Plains, Virginia. From age two, Lauren has had a lifelong passion for ballet and chose to write her thesis about all she has learned and experienced in her sixteen years of pre professional dancing. Including anecdotes and personal stories, she truthfully portrays all that is involved with the outwardly beautiful art form. Lauren is now attending college at The University of Virginia where she hopes to study Commerce and she has continued dancing with Charlottesville Ballet.

Abstract: There are many aspects of ballet that are unbeknownst to most people. Ballet is a complex visual art that requires a juxtaposition of grace and beauty with athleticism and strength. Topics that are important in a well-rounded ballet education are its unique origin story, the history of famous ballets, and the expectations of a growing dancer. By developing an understanding of ballet's history and how ballet impacts dancers mentally and physically both during and after their careers, we can earn a greater appreciation for the art and ensure its successful existence in the future.
